It was one year ago today that you went through your first of several life saving surgeries. It was without a doubt the toughest day of my life seeing your sweet little 3 lb fighting self go through this major operation. I remember it just like yesterday, the nurses were wheeling you down to surgery and they stopped before going in and let your Mommy and me have a minute with you. You were in a little isolette with so many wires, tubes, monitors and all kinds of things attached and still looked beautiful. My heart was pounding out of my chest as we prayed quickly for you and then the most amazing moment happened just before you left us, you opened your eyes and looked at us as if to say, "Mommy and Daddy everything will be alright." You had only been in our lives for 20 days but had already brought us such joy and love in the first 3 weeks of your life. As you went into surgery I was terrified that that moment with you would be my last. I knew that you were strong but the odds were not in your favor. But odds don't matter when you have a sovereign heavenly Father who is the creator of all. Your mom and I waited for hours and cried and paced and prayed and repeated this cycle just waiting for the surgeon Dr. Askew to come and give us some news. When the surgery was over Dr. Askew came and told us that you had done well and we could see you shortly. You fought through that surgery and 5 days later had the same surgery again. You are a fighter and your strength in the first few months of life, inspires me today. It is a true miracle that you are here with us today and anyone who knows you knows how much you love life. This has been a difficult day remembering all that you went through, but one year later seeing you sitting in your highchair tonight and eating Chick-fil-A says it all. You are my hero.
Love,
Your Daddy

Christian, this is so sweet, Brooklyn will cherish this when she gets older. She is such a happy baby you would never know she had been thru so much, but it just goes to prove the power of prayer. May God continue to bless each of you, hope to see all of you in June. Rhyda
